COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chaseburg Trail Days will take place Jan. 17-18 with music, food, games and a parade, plus a medallion hunt that begins on Jan. 10.  La Crosse Tribune
  • UW-La Crosse will host Bubba’s Youth Day at Mitchell Hall on Saturday with a kids fest from noon to 2:45 p.m. + a women’s basketball game at 3 p.m., aiming to break the WIAC record of 2,112 fans + supporting Bubba’s Fund and Rising Athletes.  WIZM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three La Crosse School Board incumbents—Scott Neumeister, Trevor Sprague, and Deb Suchla—face challengers Loretta Hass, Lee Weis, and Jake Williams in an April 7 election (winners will serve a three-year term beginning April 27).  WIZM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Farmers in our region are watching winter weather as below-normal moisture and fluctuating temperatures may risk crops in spring. Katy Schultz of Tri-Fecta Farms said the area welcomes any precipitation (rain or snow) to help boost soil moisture.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A low-barrier housing project opened at Hillview Health Care Campus to offer ten studio apartments with full amenities and on-site supportive services. Future applications will soon be available online as part of the Pathways Home initiative.  WEAU
  • The Town of Campbell received nearly $40 million in federal aid to improve its water system after years of using bottled water from PFAS contaminated wells. The grant will fund a second municipal well, pump house, storage tank, and piping, with work starting this year and completing in 2027.  WIZM

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health experts say current childhood vaccine recommendations remain in effect despite new CDC guidelines + parents are advised to consult personal doctors to address any vaccine concerns + hospitalizations for RSV and COVID-19 remind us to follow trusted guidance.  WEAU
  • On Jan. 8, 2026, federal health officials announced the extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies to boost coverage for La Crosse residents; eligibility criteria will be updated later (local agencies are preparing further guidance).  News8000
