- ➤ The Catholic Charities Warming Center in La Crosse is preparing for dangerously cold weather by expanding capacity from 34 to 44 people and coordinating with city, county and police to shelter overflow individuals. The center serves from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily through the weekend. WEAU
- ➤ Vincent Hamilton was honored with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award Monday at Viterbo University during the 21st annual MLK celebration (recognizing his lifelong commitment to community service). WIZM
- ➤ Organizations and volunteers in the Coulee Region held community service events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, following his legacy of civic action. Local school staff and student volunteers joined efforts to support community needs (continuing a strong tradition of service). News8000
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The La Crosse Regional Airport reported a 12.5% increase in passenger numbers last year to 43,125 with May through August as the busiest months — new Allegiant Air flights are expected to boost numbers soon. WIZM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The La Crosse School District will expand its All-Day 4K Preschool program to all elementary schools starting in (2026-27) to offer more early education access for local children. La Crosse Tribune
- ➤ At Viterbo University on Monday, Central High sophomore Amaya Emler received the Lynda Blackmon Lowery Youth Leadership Award during the Martin Luther King celebration. She was honored for mentoring peers and volunteering in school and community programs (Ujima Circles and B.L.A.C.K. summer program). WIZM
- ➤ The Hogan Administrative Center was demolished Wednesday — making way for a new $33 million elementary school on Mississippi and 19th streets that will open in fall 2027. The project, part of a $53.5 million referendum, replaced a school building used from 1899 to 1980. WIZM

- ➤ The demolition of the Hogan admin building began yesterday as officials initiated work to clear the site for future redevelopment. Contractors are set to finish removal in the coming days (details pending). News8000

- ➤ Over 600 athletes will compete at Mt. La Crosse during the 20th Dan Nagy Memorial ski race this weekend – featuring three events for youth and racers with training on Friday and main races on Saturday and Sunday. Spectators can enjoy the free event with ceremonies and gate toss contests. WIZM
