COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cameron Park will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 27 after closing on Sept. 4 due to safety concerns, and the fence is coming down as the city teams up with police and local agencies for daily outreach to keep the park safe.  WIZM
  • Local Redevelopment Authority approved a contract with JBG Planning Thursday to bring new housing and business projects to River Point north of the La Crosse River; the plan follows public input — an earlier charrette — and may set rents for a three-bedroom unit between $1,800 and $2,200.  WIZM
  • Kevin Decker organizes volunteer efforts for the homeless (through a program at Saint Joseph the Workman Cathedral) and discussed his plans during a Friday morning interview on La Crosse Talk.  WIZM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local towing companies in La Crosse are working around the clock as temperatures drop below zero to help drivers stranded by icy roads + residents are urged to plan ahead for potential delays.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rivoli Theatre co-owners Clara and Jon Gelatt explained today's changing cinema landscape in a studio discussion, focusing on the benefits of 90-minute films + community events. They will host a Cult Movie Night Saturday and screen YouTuber Mark Fischbach’s film Iron Lung later this month.  WIZM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Central and Logan high schools joined an etiquette dinner at Western Technical organized by La Crosse Promise to learn cooking and proper dining skills — Central junior Abby Wurm led the kitchen team while others practiced table manners. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers drained Lock and Dam 7 for maintenance after installing new miter gates in July, and engineers expect to finish repairs by March 15 before the 2026 navigation season. The work is part of regular 20-year inspections on the Mississippi River system.  News8000
  • Lauren Koss is named the first permanent director of La Crosse Regional Airport. Mayor Washington-Spivey announced her appointment, and she will be confirmed by City Council on Feb. 12 — Koss brings a decade of aviation experience to oversee daily operations and service expansion.  WIZM

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Humane Society reported on Jan. 23 that it is boosting food supplies, heating, and shelter to protect local animals from the coming cold — ensuring pets get the care they need as temperatures drop.  News8000
