COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 34th annual Great Tri-state Rail Sale was held Saturday, Jan. 24, drawing rail enthusiasts and vendors from around the area to browse collectibles and share their passion.  News8000
  • Below zero temperatures have kept towing companies busy as Don’s Towing works around the clock to help stranded drivers across the Coulee Region; many calls involve jump-starts for dead batteries and stalled engines.  News8000
  • City crews will remove the fence and restore access at Cameron Park on Tuesday, as confirmed by parks director Jay Odegaard. The park on King Street (between 4th Street South and 5th Avenue South) will reopen after a recent safety-related closure.  News8000

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from Alma, Mondovi, Nelson, and Waumandee responded to a machine shed fire at a residence on Pony Trail in Alma Saturday morning and extinguished the blaze with no reported injuries. Investigators said a heater (used to warm a vehicle) may have started the fire.  News8000

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Oriental Goodies has opened as the area's first grab-and-go restaurant for Philippine cuisine at 2236 State Road in La Crosse. The restaurant operates Monday through Saturday (dining 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and grocery sales 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), offering a mix of prepared dishes and cultural groceries.  News8000

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fitness Freedom hosted its first Health and Fitness Day in Lake Hallie, offering free gym access, yoga, Zumba, cupping and mobility classes — local trainers taught proper form while vendors provided muscle recovery services, nutrition samples and raffles.  WEAU
  • Community organizations, led by Sue Graf from What I Need Now, distributed emergency supplies to homeless individuals outside the Public Library and Reach Center as dangerously cold weather approaches tonight.   • Due to minus 20°F conditions, the Catholic Charities Warming Center on 3rd Street was full Thursday night and is expected to stay at capacity this weekend. Extra shelter was found at the Salvation Army & Emergency Day Center as volunteers, churches & staff provided food and hand warmers.  WIZM
  • La Crosse health officials say a new study released Jan. 24 finds fluoride is safe for infants, supporting continued use of fluoridated water and current safety guidelines.  News8000

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mount La Crosse is preparing for the 20th annual Dan Nagy Memorial Ski Race on Saturday after Friday's early closure due to cold weather, and over 1,000 athletes are expected to compete (honoring local alpine legend Dan Nagy) as hotels and restaurants gear up for busy crowds.  News8000
