COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students at St. Patrick in Onalaska crafted weighted stuffed animals for 30 mothers who lost a child. Teacher Cheyenne Kulmaczewski led the project by assigning tasks across grades to sew, decorate, and deliver these heartfelt gifts that offer community comfort.  News8000
  • Residents in La Crosse and Onalaska can access free tax preparation help through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program for middle and low-income families who have lived in Wisconsin for at least one year; services are offered at Reach Services on 11th St. S and at Great Rivers United Way with appointments scheduled online.  News8000
  • AARP announced a free tax help program for seniors that provides assistance with filing returns and claiming credits. The service, already available at local centers — offering support from trained volunteers — aims to help eligible residents.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tony Evers visited The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse today to review local efforts supporting food security with $10 million in state funding that links farmers + pantries. Evers and officials also volunteered as the bank serves about 30,000 people each month.  WEAU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sen. Tammy Baldwin called on Washington to restore Medicaid funding during Wednesday's video news conference, noting 54,000 Wisconsin residents lost coverage amid tax cuts. Local families from Tomah + Eau Claire reported struggles with limited access to affordable care and urged Congress to act.  WIZM
