COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members are invited to a retro dinner at Coon Valley Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children (6-12) with a $5 discount when bringing a vintage dish to share, celebrating family recipes and traditions.  News8000

  • Barnes and Noble at Valley View Mall closed early yesterday at 1:30 p.m. due to a leaky roof and water damage. The store has not provided a reopening schedule and will update its Facebook page with further details.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • The La Crosse Public Library unveiled its renovated archives and local history reading room, providing enhanced access to community records through improved technology and expanded space (open 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. on weekdays and 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Saturdays).  News8000

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to AAA, regular unleaded gas prices jumped nearly 32 cents per gallon in eight days — from $2.545 on Feb. 23 to $2.863 on Tuesday. AAA credits the seasonal shift before spring for driving the increase.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • La Crosse School District held a groundbreaking Monday for a new elementary school replacing Emerson and Spence that will open late next year near the old Hogan administrative building (approved with a $53.5 million referendum). Students visited the ceremony and community input will name the school in April.  WIZM
  • University of Wisconsin-La Crosse students teamed with the Izaak Walton League to design and deploy digital trail signs on Hintgen Island — a project that lets visitors scan smartphones to learn about the Upper Mississippi River's history, wildlife, and barge traffic through a conservation grant.  News8000

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Monday, the plan commission approved rezoning of the old Kmart lot along Losey Boulevard for five new buildings offering 250 apartments + commercial space. The proposal will be reviewed by the city's Judiciary and Administrative Committee Tuesday night and, if approved, the property will be demolished this summer.  WIZM

SPORTS NEWS

  • UWL men’s and women’s teams (WIAC champions) head into the NCAA Division III Tournament this week. The men host at Mitchell Hall Friday, March 6 at 4:20 p.m. and 6:50 p.m., while the women play at Carroll University in Waukesha (tournament opener at 5:15 p.m.) Friday.  WIZM
