  • The La Crosse and Onalaska Fire Departments, in partnership with Emplify Health by Gundersen, are running the third annual Mugs for Rugs program this month—residents can exchange throw rugs for a free coffee mug at select local coffee shops, with donated rugs later given to animal shelters.  WIZM
  • Grand Crossing Trail repairs will begin March 9 — addressing flood mitigation concerns — and the trail will be closed during work.  News8000

  • Dairyland Power Cooperative and Gridliance Heartland propose a 140-mile transmission line from Marion to Bell Center through Vernon County — replacing wooden poles with taller steel lattice towers spaced farther apart — and are holding open houses next week for community feedback.  WEAU

  • The La Crosse school district broke ground on a new elementary school on Mar. 2 + officials said the project will offer updated classrooms for growing enrollment and serve as a community asset.  News8000

  • La Crosse County is investing $500K in local growth by providing grants to support small businesses, housing projects and arts and culture initiatives. The move will boost community development in our area.  La Crosse Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • A free Wellness Marketplace will bring together 17 health and wellness vendors on Saturday, March 7th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Cargill Room downtown, where event producer Laurie Cafe said local practitioners (including chiropractors and masseuses) will offer community members a chance to learn about their services.  News8000

  • The city committee approved rezoning of the old Kmart lot at Losey Boulevard and State Road, following a plan commission vote for nearly 250 new apartments. The developer said more meetings may occur before construction begins.  WIZM
