COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity is hosting Women Build, a three-day event where local women volunteer on building sites to work on two houses—one on the north side and one in Stoddard. The event empowers women under-represented in construction and helps families gain stronger, stable homes.  WEAU
  • Brian Simpson from Rock Mornings previewed the 20th Annual St. Patty’s Day .01K on Pearl Street today—a race 32.8 feet long that raises funds for the Hunger Task Force—with registration opening at Brother’s Bar at 3 p.m. and the race starting at 6 p.m.  WIZM
  • Habitat For Humanity executive director Kahya Fox appeared on La Crosse Talk on March 13 to explain that the Women Build Program starts this weekend and Housing Week is set for April 28 to May 3. She said Neighbor's Day on April 26 will need volunteers to help clean homes and yards for those in need.  WIZM

  • Houghton's Jackson Street Pub in La Crosse is preparing for St. Patrick's Day by planning to cook 900 lbs of corned beef—300 lbs more than last year. The pub will serve Irish dishes like green Guinness and corned beef and cabbage at a first-come, first-served event for the holiday weekend.  News8000

CRIME NEWS

  • Tomah Middle School was placed on hold when a 7MM rifle bullet was found in the boys' bathroom around 9 a.m. Friday (police reported they cleared the scene after interviewing and searching those who entered the room before the discovery and confirmed that no threat existed).  News8000

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kevin Hundt dropped out of the La Crosse school board race on Thursday & endorsed Molly Fuchs, Merideth Garcia, and Jeff Jackson, saying the three share his key progressive values. His name remains on the ballot for April 1 due to state election law.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Assembly Rep. Tara Johnson spoke on La Crosse Talk on March 11, 2025, warning that a federal funding freeze could hurt local farms and businesses while discussing a bill to stop hospitals from doing tests without consent. She noted that the city council recently approved a $250k vote for an airline revenue fund+ and plans are underway to shift regional assets like the airport and La Crosse Center+.  WIZM
  • On March 15, 2025, the La Crosse Common Council approved a liquor license for The Rookery—a new restaurant that will replace the Eagle's Nest—and set funding for a state road reconstruction project and an airport minimum revenue guarantee. The council also approved a resolution to rescind surplus property status from old fire station 2.  News8000

  • UW-La Crosse track coach Katie Wagner said junior sprinter Lauren Jarrett, a Logan High graduate who placed sixth at a recent USATF indoor event against top competitors, is key to the team’s track dynasty as the Eagles head to New York for the Division III Indoor Championships this weekend—Wagner is in her 15th season coaching.  WIZM
