COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity announced an All Women Build event that invites local women to volunteer on constructing affordable homes in La Crosse. The initiative will soon bring community members together to build sustainable housing.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local women veterans were honored Wednesday evening at Western Technical College during an I Am Not Invisible project reception. Digital photography students documented the event + some veterans will record oral histories for the museum collection.  WIZM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loretta Hass (candidate for the board) detailed her plans in a Q&A to boost school consolidation, update teacher technology, and enhance diverse representation as early voting is underway ahead of the spring election ending April 7.  WIZM
  • Trevor Sprague, one of six School Board candidates with early voting open until April 7, stressed his local roots and the need for better teacher support and facility efficiency by advocating inflation-indexed raises and flexible property use — a plan aimed at enhancing local education.  WIZM
  • Students at Logan High are building a tiny home on campus to learn home maintenance and cooking. The project has received community material donations + expert help and will be used next year to teach life skills.  WIZM
  • Lee Wees — a La Crosse native and IT professional at Altra — is one of six candidates for the school board as early voting has begun for the spring election ending April 7, and he discussed plans for improved school maintenance and teacher support during a recent Q&A.  WIZM
  • La Crosse School Board candidate Scott Neumeister, a local business owner with four generations at Logan, discussed his vision during a Q&A as early voting continues for the spring election ending April 7. He stressed balancing school consolidation, teacher retention, and community input on future school names.  WIZM
  • Jake Williams, a digital media manager and local transit board volunteer, shared his background in public administration and community work while running as one of six candidates in the school board race. Early voting is underway and will end April 7.  WIZM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers are proposing rules to limit mega transmission construction by requiring the Public Service Commission to use utility land or bury lines underground near highways and railroads (the proposal comes after pushback on the 140-mile Maribel project, with Dairyland Power reviewing the plan).  News8000
  • The City of La Crosse announced that the Isle La Plume Yard Waste & Brush site will open Monday, March 30 at 10 a.m. due to heavy snowfall, while its regular hours remain and residents need a new $25 seasonal permit per vehicle.  WIZM

SPORTS NEWS

  • UW-La Crosse unveiled its 2026 football schedule under head coach Michael Zweifel, set to begin spring practices next week. The Eagles will face ranked teams starting Sept. 5 and host Hardin-Simmons on Sept. 12 as part of Community Day at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex + games follow.  WIZM
  • UW-La Crosse’s Sam Grieger was named the 2025-26 NABC Division III Player of the Year on Thursday, making him the first in school history to earn the honor after setting scoring and field-goal records + he also joined the NABC All-America First Team.  WIZM
