ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews responded to a house fire on the 600 block of 5th Ave S just before 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night and spent over three hours fighting the blaze with no injuries reported—investigators are looking into the cause while the Red Cross assists displaced residents.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, the National Association of Letter Carriers held a rally in La Crosse to protest plans that could let the Secretary of Commerce change the postal service — local carriers warned that privatization might raise prices and cut service for important deliveries.  News8000
  • Vern Weisensel explained that the NALC La Crosse branch held a protest against privatizing the USPS as part of a national demonstration. The protest shows local union members working to keep postal services public.  La Crosse Tribune
  • On March 20th, La Crosse mayor candidate Chris Kahlow appeared on La Crosse Talk and detailed her priorities—reducing homelessness, hiring a city administrator, and improving parks and outreach. She is running against Shaundel Washington-Spivey in the spring election that ends April 1.  WIZM
  • Governor Evers' budget proposal will add film production tax incentives and create an Office of Film and Creative Industries through the Department of Tourism to help boost jobs and local film projects—supporters say the plan will grow both the economy and culture in Wisconsin. Filmmaker Nathan Deming and groups like Action! Wisconsin urge legislators to back the new measures so that local talent stays and more film crews come here.  WEAU

  • On Saturday, the Cochrane-Fountain City Pirates earned a Division 5 state championship with a 60-54 win over Sheboygan Lutheran at the Kohl Center. The Aquinas Blugolds captured their fifth state title in Division 4 with a 74-45 victory over Bonduel — both teams coming home with gold.  WIZM
