COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers announced the Safe Cam Fund has reached half its $100,000 goal to improve camera coverage — a push spurred by footage that revealed system gaps. A fundraising event is set for 4 p.m. tomorrow at Capella Wedding and Events downtown.  News8000
  • Local officials announced that additional security cameras will be installed at Riverside Park to boost visitor safety — installation is scheduled to begin soon with work continuing through the season.  News8000
  • La Crosse is considering applying for a Sister Cities International award to honor its sister city programs—highlighting work building new schools in Kumbo.   • A review by Green Homeowners United shows natural gas rates increased 30% for Xcel Energy in La Crosse and 41% for MGE in March.   • U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin and Senator John Thune introduced the Fertilizer Transparency Act to help Wisconsin farmers as urea prices rose 25% since February, requiring the USDA to publish weekly fertilizer price data.
