  • A La Crosse farm family rejected a $26 million proposal for an AI center on their farmland, choosing instead to maintain their farming operations + end discussions.  News8000
  • Ollie’s Bargain Outlet opened at 3960 Mormon Coulee Road yesterday, offering name-brand items at discounts up to 70% off. Shoppers lined up early and the store operates daily (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.).  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • Holocaust survivor Irene Miller appeared on the Rick Solem Show yesterday and will speak today at Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre as part of the annual Teaching the Holocaust Educators’ Workshop – she will also address local students on Friday.  WIZM
  • Elmers Toy's and Auto Museum in Fountain City will offer its final public viewing on Saturday, Mar. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. before auctioning nearly 30,000 vintage toys collected by Elmer Duellman over 30 years.  News8000

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Universities of Wisconsin launched free online A.I. courses called ASAP (AI Skills Access Passport) to help people with little knowledge learn about A.I. UW President Jay Rothman promoted the offering during his visit in La Crosse on Tuesday, and the program was made with UW Credit Union support.  WIZM
  • Western Technical College students will offer a computer help desk on Fridays from March 27 through April 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in room 219 at the Wanek Center of Innovation, 744 Badger St. in La Crosse. Walk-ins and appointments are welcome (free parking in lot H and visitor spots).  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, senators Tammy Baldwin and Jeff Merkley and Congresswoman Gwen Moore introduced the Perinatal Workforce Act to expand and diversify the maternal healthcare workforce. The legislation will support grant programs and studies to improve access to quality maternity care in Wisconsin and across the nation.  WEAU
  • County officials announced a new roundabout will be built at the intersection of County Road OT, Commerce Road, and Corporate Drive to improve safety after 13 crashes over four years. Construction is set to begin in April and finish in November, and a public meeting is held tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Onalaska Town Hall.  News8000
  • A judge ruled Wednesday that the sale of the former UW campus to a Christian school can proceed, though the decision is not final as further review is expected.  La Crosse Tribune
