  • Rudy’s Drive-In opened for the season at 11 a.m. today — the local drive-in has served root beer, burgers, chili dogs, fries, and onion rings for 92 years and been at Tenth and La Crosse for 59 years. Cars lined up before service began as carhops on roller skates delivered orders.  WIZM
  • Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region is hosting the Upgrade and Save: Energy Assistance and Repair Expo today at 4 p.m. at the La Crosse Public Library—where local experts from the city, Couleecap, Xcel Energy, Lead Safe Homes and Focus on Energy will explain free programs to help homeowners and renters with repairs and energy savings.  WIZM

  • Truman Lowe, the late Black River Falls artist and UW-La Crosse alum, will have over 50 works displayed at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington on October 24 showing sculptures and paintings.  La Crosse Tribune

  • UW-La Crosse professor Tara DeLong offers free Awe 101 classes to help students and the public use art for mental health improvement at the La Crosse Public Library this spring+ The program uses hands-on art projects to ease stress and offer new views, with one more session set for April 27.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tomah Police and Fire Commission appointed Assistant Police Chief Eric Pedersen as the new chief of police—he will take command on April 19 after Chief Scott Holum retires on April 18.  WEAU
  • The Wisconsin DOT said a $21 million project on WIS 131 in Crawford County will begin Monday. The project will replace roadway pavement, six bridges and 11 culvert pipes between WIS 60 in Wauzeka and Pleasant Street in Soldiers Grove—traffic will be detoured along WIS 60 and US 61 until it is finished by mid-November.  News8000
