COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Western Technical College is offering free computer help on Fridays until April 17—9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 219 at the Wanek Center of Innovation on 744 Badger Street. Walk-ins and appointments are welcome.  WIZM
  • Community groups held 'No Kings' rallies Saturday in La Crosse, Winona and Sparta to encourage unity and better local leadership (focusing on community voices) as residents shared their views and supported one another.  News8000
  • The Holmen community gathered last Saturday for the annual Adapted Sports League fundraiser with tap-bowling, bingo and auctions & support local athletes and Project LIVE at the R.W. Houser YMCA. The event helped fund adaptive sports equipment & a transition program for young adults with special needs.  News8000
  • Three area fire departments and the American Red Cross will visit homes on Saturday, Apr. 11 to install free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (up to three alarms per eligible home) in La Crosse and nearby areas; call 888-376-4056 to set an appointment.  WIZM

  • DaaBin Store will close its Valley View Mall location today after nearly two years of offering second-chance employment to formerly incarcerated individuals. The shop announced its final day on Facebook—and more details on its next move will be revealed soon.  News8000

  • Three area teachers are honored as 2026 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellows, chosen from over 1,200 nominations statewide. Mariah Bigelow, Natalie Anderson and Heather Stenslien each receive $6,000 with their schools matching the grant to support student learning.  WIZM

  • Bhavana Depuru Guru leads Trane Technologies in a breakthrough for sustainable building. She works to cut 1 million metric tons of carbon emissions by 2030 through energy-efficient systems for hospitals, schools, and data centers + her work earned three patents in six months.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials unveiled early plans for River Point Park today to update park facilities and boost community spaces (more details to follow).  La Crosse Tribune
  • The City opened its Yard Waste and Brush site Monday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at 2000 Marco Drive — delayed one week by a snowstorm. Residents may purchase $25 seasonal permits online or at City Hall, and the site takes yard and food waste as well as brush.  News8000

HEALTH NEWS

  • La Crosse County Health is hosting a well water testing event at Town of Holland Town Hall on April 7 from 3:30+8 p.m. Residents can pick up sample bottles at the Health Department, Town Hall, or local libraries to test for nitrates, bacteria, arsenic and metals, with payment accepted.  WIZM

  • Unwind Property Management has submitted plans for 73 townhomes at River Point Park — if the detailed plans are not approved within six months, the Redevelopment Authority may pursue alternate developers.  La Crosse Tribune
