- ➤ Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland launched its Be A Cookie Hero campaign after having 72,000 unsold boxes of cookies that support programs from STEM classes to outdoor adventures. The non-profit will run the campaign through April 15—100% of the proceeds will stay local. News8000
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Organizers of the Country Boom festival have requested the option to buy 85 acres from the former county farm to move the summer event closer to West Salem. The proposal—supported by both the village and the school district—includes plans for festival grounds plus a phased housing development with about 300 new homes and will be discussed at an upcoming planning meeting. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, La Crosse’s Finance and Personnel Committee approved a plan to balance department budgets by carrying surplus funds from departments with extra money to cover cost overruns in the fire, engineering, and park departments—fire costs exceeded the budget by $224,000. The full city council will review the proposed adjustments next week at their final meeting before new leadership is sworn in. WIZM
- ➤ The Finance and Personnel Committee approved a 10-year docking agreement with American Cruise Lines — the company will pay $20,000 a year for docking its riverboats at Riverside Park. Although several cruise ships will pass through in May, the first scheduled stop is set for mid-June. WIZM
- ➤ Tellurian Behavioral Health said it will not open Jackson House—a crisis facility for up to eight individuals— on May 1 due to government budget cuts. Local leaders warned the decision will leave a gap in crisis care as hospitals and jails try to manage mental health emergencies. WEAU
- ➤ Senator Tammy Baldwin introduced her Winter Recreation Small Business Recovery Act on Friday to help winter businesses get disaster relief during mild winters when low snowfall hurt tourism and jobs after last winter's record warmth. The bipartisan bill would allow small businesses to receive federal Injury Disaster Loans when natural snowfall is insufficient. WEAU

- ➤ UW-L football released its 2025 schedule on April 3, showing a season that begins with an away game at Carnegie Mellon on September 13 (11:00 a.m. central, noon in Pittsburgh) and a home opener against Wayne State on September 20 before a series of key conference games. Pizza, a movie and a message: FSPA hosts free Earth Day event
In recognition of Earth Day, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration are hosting a free pizza and movie night on April 10 at the Rivoli Theatre.
