COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lion's Club hosted its 2nd annual donkey basketball fundraiser at the Omni Center in Onalaska Wednesday evening to raise $2,000 for an all-inclusive playground. Local fire department + police department + coaches joined in the game and lent a fun twist to the fundraiser.  News8000

  • Onalaska Middle School evacuated students as a safety precaution after a gas line incident, and officials said they hope to update soon on when it is safe for students to return to the classrooms.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • Aaron Falcon-Radke, a Jackson County man facing his tenth drunk-driving charge, was arrested outside a West Salem business on Monday on a probation warrant when police found signs of drug use and a syringe with fentanyl—he is now in La Crosse County jail with a $1000 cash bond and will appear in court on April 25th.  WIZM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The DNR is launching the new Fishing Finder tool — a one-stop source for fishing information — to help anglers find rules, stocked fish spots, and boat launch sites for the coming summer. The old Trout Tool will shut down in May as its functions move to the new system.  News8000
  • Yesterday marked the opening day of Wisconsin’s spring turkey hunting season when DNR expert Alissa Kakatsch told local hunters to treat every firearm as if it were loaded (TAB-K) and use good camouflage. She added that any turkey taken must be registered by 5 p.m. the next day and urged hunters to scout the land to know where birds gather.  News8000
  • Tamra Dickinson (a two-year District 1 council member) was elected as La Crosse City Council president on Tuesday by an 8-to-5 vote. She said she will lead a working group on a new city administrator proposal (expected to report next month) and support a $25 yard waste permit sticker.  WIZM

  • High school and college students explored healthcare careers at a career fair held at UWL on Wednesday — over 50 booths offered hands-on insights into emergency medicine, medical research, nursing assistance and pharmacy technology — and organizers said the event helped students learn about various professional paths.  News8000
