COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown La Crosse will get a temporary dog park at Cameron Park from May through August as Burns Park is being prepared to host a weekly Farmers Market starting the first week of May. The park board voted 8 to 1 on the dog park plan—and one board member questioned the choice of site—and also approved a Second Saturday Downtown Art Market on Main Street and 2nd Street during July, August, and September.  WIZM
  • On April 17, executive director Kahya Fox previewed Habitat for Humanity’s first ever La Crosse Housing Week (April 28-May 3) and Neighbors’ Day on La Crosse Talk, noting volunteers will help more than 200 elderly residents clean up their yards on April 26. Kelly Colgan, representing Habitat For Heroes in the Conductor Wannabe competition, said votes received through April 28 will select the winner who conducts the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra on May 3.  WIZM
  • The La Crosse Center will host Trivia on the Terrace every Friday in June and July except July 4th, offering free admission, scenic views, and food and beverage options from Chick-fil-A. Doors will open at 5 p.m.—or at 3:30 p.m. on June 6th because of a concert—and trivia will start at 6 p.m. or at 4:30 p.m. on that day.  WIProud

  • Linda's Bakery is preparing Easter treats including bunny cakes and hot cross buns & launching a new menu of rhubarb products with custard pies, muffins, and more. Customers can order goodies until 6 P.M. the night before Easter while the bakery stays open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  News8000

CRIME NEWS

  • A La Crosse judge on Thursday lowered the bond for 19-year-old Jaysen Moran to $1,000—letting him be released to house arrest and work—while he faces charges of attempted murder after allegedly shooting a 17-year-old boy on Logan Street during a March fight.  WIZM

  • Artist of the Month Reignyn Khaos gives lively drag shows that make local audiences smile—she works on new projects and helps teach new performers. Her strong energy on stage brings fun and creative spirit to events in La Crosse.  WIProud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UW system students will face higher housing and campus fees starting next academic year—fee increases vary by campus from $18 to $434.  La Crosse Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The UW La Crosse Police Department earned full accreditation from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group in early April, joining only 8% of agencies nationwide. Chief Allen Hill said the honor shows the department meets high standards—an important sign of its strong service to the community.  WIProud
