- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating the illegal killing of No. 244, a GPS-collared bull elk vital to the Central Elk Herd that was found on private land north of Black River Falls— officials said the animal died from a gunshot wound as staff were preparing to relocate the elk group. - ➤ The Rivoli Theater in La Crosse will host its 2nd 48 Hour Film Festival starting April 25th, where film teams have 48 hours to create a short for a screening on May 2nd — it will also show a free screening on April 27th at 6 pm of One Night in the Body Shop, a film made by graduates of Western Technical College. - ➤ Religious leaders in the Coulee Region are mourning Pope Francis, who died early this morning, as Bishop Gerard Battersby expressed surprise and recalled the pope’s call to mercy—Ann Lankford noted his work reached the marginalized while the Vatican confirmed he suffered a stroke.
