- ➤ On Tuesday, La Crosse high school students and firefighters turned 100 throw rugs from the city's fall prevention campaign into cat scratching posts to give cats a fun place to play. The posts will be sent to Coulee Region Humane Society — they are also available for purchase. News8000
- ➤ The La Crosse Fire Department collected over 110 donated rugs from its Mugs for Rugs campaign to help prevent falls among seniors and high school students from the Health Science Academy turned 40 of these rugs into cat scratching posts for humane society use—teaching them about medical and community safety while preparing for a project with Future Farmers of America next week to build larger cat trees. - ➤ Sherry Noble from Next Chapter appeared on WIZM’s La Crosse Talk to explain how the group helps formerly incarcerated men restart life—she detailed a fundraiser from 4—8 p.m. Wednesday at Burrachos where 25% of sales will benefit the organization and if more than 50 people attend, an extra 25% of sales will be donated. - ➤ The Franciscan nuns in La Crosse feel a deep bond with Pope Francis—who chose his name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi and showed care for the poor—and now honor his legacy as funeral preparations are underway in Rome. Sister Sarah Hennessey said the sisters hope the next pope will continue to meet the needs of the world. WIZM
- ➤ Bishop Gerard Battersby said he was surprised by the news of 88-year-old Pope Francies’ death — he explained that the pope was called home during Easter week and called it the best day of his life. WIProud

- ➤ The La Crosse School District celebrated a new solar installation at Summit Environmental School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony—designed to serve as an outdoor classroom and a clean energy source. The project, led by Solar on La Crosse Schools, is expected to lower energy costs for at least 30 years. News8000
- ➤ On Monday night, the La Crosse School Board accepted a bid of about $1.5 million for renovations at Central High School—an increase from the earlier estimate of $1 million. The project, awarded to Fowler and Hammer, will add new district offices as the board plans to vacate the Hogan Administration building, scheduled for demolition later this year—after an approved elementary school referendum. - ➤ La Crosse’s last public well on French Island was taken offline due to PFAS chemicals from firefighting efforts — the city board of public works voted Monday to remove its pipes and equipment at a cost of $44,000 from city cash reserves — and the brick building will be converted to a storage garage for a life station. Campbell is considering new water options including connecting to the La Crosse water system or building its own system as private wells remain contaminated. WIZM
