COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, May 16 at 9 a.m., riders will gather at Great River Harley Davidson in Onalaska for the 30th annual Big Bikes for Little Tikes ride — a journey of over 100 miles through the Coulee Region that aims to fund a safety bed for Viroqua boy Tucker Lovelace.  WIZM
  • Organizers announced that due to a logistical error the Farmers Market planned for May 1 will move from its approved spot on Pearl Street downtown. Supporters should check back before the market begins for updated location details.  WIZM
  • Great Rivers United Way named Alex Lueck and Alex Wasieleski as co-chairs for its 2026-27 campaign. Lueck (from Xcel Energy) and Wasieleski (the youngest co-chair) will lead fundraising efforts starting with a Day of Caring in July and a major event in the fall.  WIZM

  • La Crosse celebrated Earth Day when city officials showcased completed 5-year, $65M wastewater plant upgrades at Isle La Plume + the improvements now allow the plant to generate power from methane and convert sewage solids into fertilizer.  WIZM

  • Emplify Health by Gundersen opened its $5.2 million EmPATH unit on Thursday in La Crosse to care for mental health patients in a quiet, calm environment—freeing space in emergency rooms and highlighting community support.  WEAU
  • Local Justin Putman, diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s in 2022, shares his journey online during Parkinson’s Awareness Month to raise awareness and build support.
