- ➤ A new building at the Family Resource Center will soon expand support for families in the Chippewa Valley as part of a child care partnership with Western Dairyland Economic Opportunity Council—services that have reached families in Buffalo and Pepin counties since 2024. - ➤ Two La Crosse city committees voted Monday to oppose a state transportation plan to close the Avon-Hagar and St. Cloud-Liberty railroad crossings—officials say the move would force more traffic onto the last remaining crossing and hurt nearby neighborhoods. - ➤ The USDA’s recent dismissal of 6,000 workers has raised doubts over its ability to oversee the 45 private certifiers that support organic farming—worrying local producers. State Sen. - ➤ City leaders on the north side of La Crosse backed a vote to contest WisDOT’s plan to change railroad crossings at Avon and Hagar Street and Liberty and St. Cloud Street by adding a second rail track, extending medians, adding stop signs and closing some roads — the change could hurt local traffic and emergency access. The Plan Commission and Board of Public Works voted for the move on Monday and the Judiciary Committee discussed the resolution at its 6:00 p.m. meeting on Tuesday. News8000

- ➤ River City Running Club president Michael Borst previewed the upcoming La Crosse Marathon on La Crosse Talk on April 29 — he said the May 3 event will include a marathon, half marathon, 5k and kids race in Riverside Park, serve as a Boston Marathon qualifier and fundraise for local causes. Registration costs are $120 for the marathon, $110 for the half and $55 for the 5k while volunteers are needed for eight water stations and tear down. WIZM
