- ➤ Winner duo Angela Newman and Dave Wagner raised $70,032 for the La Crosse Walk to Defeat ALS during the record-breaking Conductor Wannabes contest, with Nancy Allen taking second for Karuna Housing. They will conduct at Saturday's Andrey Returns! concert on May 2, with funds split between nonprofits & the orchestra. News8000

- ➤ Sparta Free Library was awarded a $250,000 USDA grant on Apr. 29 + the funds will support local library programs and community services. News8000
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ 350 Wisconsin, Faith in Place and Healthy Climate Wisconsin will host an online forum on May 11 (6:30 to 8 p.m. CT) and May 19 (6:30 to 8 p.m. CT) for gubernatorial candidates to discuss clean energy, green job creation and ways to keep energy affordable. WEAU
- ➤ City officials and the La Crosse School District are proposing a $33 million indoor pool at Logan High School to replace the closed outdoor facility and offer year-round swim lessons. The plan may trigger a 36-cent mill rate increase and includes four public sessions next month (dates pending). WEAU
- ➤ On Wednesday, Congressman Van Orden introduced H.R. 8532 — the VA Home Loan Affordability Act — to streamline veterans’ home loan processing and reduce delays amid today’s competitive housing market. WEAU
- ➤ County Highway U will close May 11-14 for culvert replacement along the road from the Trempealeau County Line to County Highway HH in Clear Creek and Pleasant Valley townships. Drivers must use other local roads as project delays due to weather are possible. News8000

- ➤ Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center opened April 29 and now offers residents expanded health services + local officials expect it to boost access to care in the area. The facility is part of a broader effort to enhance community health. News8000

- ➤ The city is reviewing plans for a new mixed-use development at River Point District located at 7 Copeland Ave. The proposal includes 90 housing units, 14,000 sqft of commercial space, 183 parking spots, a plaza and a dog park (pending committee review). La Crosse Tribune

- ➤ The WIAA announced an 8-year contract extension that will keep the state track meet at Roger Harring Stadium through 2034 — a deal with UW-La Crosse and Explore La Crosse that secures the event's long-term role and boosts the local economy. WIZM

30th Annual La Crosse Area Mayoral Prayer Breakfast
