- ➤ Freeman Cole did not receive a bond reduction at a Tuesday hearing—he is accused of trying to strangle a woman at a La Crosse storage unit in 2023 and claims his rights were violated. WIZM

- ➤ The fourth annual Imagine Summit took place at CVTC on April 30 at 9:50 a.m. CDT—nearly 100 students from nine western Wisconsin school districts attended the event to learn more about science, technology, engineering and math. WIProud

- ➤ Officials from French Island and La Crosse met briefly in court Tuesday to set the stage for Campbell’s plan to become a village. Campbell town chair Dan Kapanke said the group collected 900 signatures—well above the 50 needed—and a state panel with a six-month review will soon recommend next steps amid local water concerns. - ➤ A proposed zoning change near UW-La Crosse was recommended on Tuesday by a city council committee to allow more housing by shifting lots on West Avenue and Badger Street from business to residential use. The Finance and Personnel Committee will review a plan to vacate part of a street for extra parking later today (one landlord said the change might cut affordable housing and hurt business) (further reviews of downtown parking and airport projects are also on the agenda). - ➤ La Crosse city council has delayed its decision on creating a city administrator and may vote next week to postpone the hire until early next year—residents still have time to share their thoughts. City officials say if the role is approved, filling it will take 6—9 months with a salary of nearly $200,000 a year. WIZM
