- ➤ Freedom Honor Flight, a nonprofit that sends area veterans to Washington, D.C. to see war memorials, is scheduled to fly 101 veterans tomorrow—departing from the Colgan Air Service hangar at 6 a.m. and returning around 9:30-10 p.m. Dave Larsen, a veteran who discussed the event on La Crosse Talk on May 1, emphasized the need to honor Vietnam vets who did not get a proper welcome home. - ➤ At UWL, a senior speed dating event will be held on May 6 from 5:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Health Science Center room 2064 with check-in starting at 5 p.m.—organizers are seeking more men aged 65+ while women registering will be placed on a waitlist. News8000
- ➤ AARP Wisconsin sponsored an event called Let's Taco 'Bout ADUs at the Pump House Regional Arts Center on Thursday—community members enjoyed free tacos and learned how new accessory dwelling units can help ease rising housing prices in La Crosse. - ➤ La Crosse officials are opposing a state plan by the DOT to change north side intersections at Liberty and St. Cloud Streets and Avon and Hagar Streets into cul de sacs. City commissioners worry the plan will cut community access and harm safety — a resolution is set for city council on May 8th. WIProud
- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the 2025-2026 general inland fishing season will open tomorrow and introduced the Wisconsin Fishing Finder (a new online tool showing regulations, launch spots, access points, and stocking data) to help anglers. All residents and nonresidents 16 or older must buy a fishing license, with resident licenses priced at $20 and spousal licenses at $31. News8000

- ➤ Gundersen’s Emplify Health is building the EmPATH facility plus the center will give emergency psychiatric care to La Crosse patients in crisis. The 5,000-square-foot unit inside the Inpatient Behavioral Health Building will open in 2026 and features eight exam rooms designed for calm care. News8000

- ➤ The University of Wisconsin La Crosse men’s basketball team announced that a Summer Shootout will be held at Mitchell Hall on June 27 and 28, with three games played every 55 minutes starting at 9:00 a.m. both days (the schedule was shared on social media) and fans can opt to participate on one day or both days (this event is in its inaugural year). - ➤ Runners from across the region will take part in the Festival Foods La Crosse Marathon tomorrow, with a USATF-certified full marathon starting at 6:00 a.m. in Sparta, a half marathon and a 5K planned for all levels. Race packets must be picked up today between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the La Crosse Center—shuttle buses will transport full marathon runners from the center to the start line. WIProud
- ➤ The WIAA approved a new rule in a 293—108 vote that lets high school athletes in Wisconsin profit from NIL deals but bans use of team uniforms, logos and ads promoting alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or weapons. The rule will take effect later in May. WIProud
