  • La Crosse Marathon officials said the race will cause traffic delays on key routes as it moves through downtown. Motorists are advised to plan ahead for detours and extra travel time.  News8000

  • Onalaska’s OPUS Bakehouse will open a new storefront in La Crosse in June. Neighbors will enjoy freshly baked sourdough treats + a warm community welcome when the shop launches.  La Crosse Tribune
  • United Airlines has postponed its new direct flights from La Crosse Regional Airport to Chicago to Oct. 25 due to FAA capacity limits at O'Hare + passengers with tickets will be contacted for rebooking or refunds.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new bronze statue honoring Betsy Thunder, a Ho-Chunk medicine woman, will be installed at Friendship Gardens in Riverside Park next Monday with a 7 a.m. ceremony near the river; the Ho-Chunk section will be dedicated on July 30 (International Day of Friendship).  WIZM
  • A Native American game played over 200 years ago at the gathering place that became La Crosse is credited with inspiring the city's name. Local historians say the tradition remains an important part of community culture.  News8000
  • Three guest conductors will lead the La Crosse Symphony this weekend after winning the annual Conductor Wannabe contest; Dave Wagner and Angela Newman raised $70,032 for the ALS Foundation to perform a Saint-Saëns march (a contest record), while Nancy Allen, who raised $32,635, will conduct an opera selection.  WIZM

  • Local mental health organizations, including the Mental Health Coalition of Greater La Crosse and Great Rivers United Way, provided Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Friday, May 1 + teachers, school staff, and county social workers learned skills to support young people facing mental health challenges.  News8000
  • Serene Clean partners with Cleaning 4 A Reason to offer free house cleaning twice a month for eligible homeowners fighting cancer; the service, available since 2019 in the Coulee Region, aims to ease treatment stress + boost home comfort.  WEAU
