  • The Ho-Chunk Nation unveiled its new Betsy Thunder statue overlooking Riverside Park garden to honor local heritage. Community members can now enjoy the artistic landmark.  La Crosse Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Monday morning commuters in the La Crosse area saw gas prices exceed $4 per gallon at local stations, including the Kwik Trip at Hale Drive in Holmen, after a 45-cent rise+ was reported. Local drivers may feel the change as they fill up.  La Crosse Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coulee Montessori students are preparing for their fifth annual plant sale to raise funds for a new playground shade structure and greenhouse costs and will hold it at Northside Elementary on Friday, May 8, 2:30 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, May 9, 9 a.m. to noon.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wisconsin Department of Justice secured final approval today for a $700M settlement that ends a five-year case against Google and requires the company to change its app payment practices, with most funds sent through PayPal+Venmo to customers who bought apps on Google Play from Aug. 2016 to Sept. 2023.  WEAU

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mental Health Coalition of Greater La Crosse launched its Be Here Campaign in May to help residents reduce phone usage; the initiative offers mindfulness events and will conclude on May 21 with a Mental Health Awareness Celebration (community walk and resource fair).  News8000
