  • On May 8th, fire crews in La Crosse rescued a family and their pets trapped on the second floor of a house on Losey Boulevard—battling heavy fire that left the home with moderate fire and heavy smoke damage while an investigation continues.  WIProud

  • Luke Zahm, co-owner of Driftless Café, explained that Foodie Friday showcases a rotating menu made from local organic farms, with lunch served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner offered Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday to Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.—the café will also launch a beer garden on June 1.  News8000

  • Hundreds of UW-La Crosse students showed research and art at the annual Research and Creativity Symposium Friday—nearly 400 presenters shared work from science, humanities, art, business, and education. State Representatives Jill Billings and Brad Pfaff attended, and the event gave students the chance to build skills for future jobs—helping them learn and grow.  News8000

  • La Crosse city council opposed WisDOT’s plan to remove the railway crossing at St. Cloud and Liberty Streets—asking for alternative solutions to improve safety.  La Crosse Tribune
  • Farmers in western Wisconsin and state lawmakers rallied at Burns Park on Thursday to urge Congress to pass a new five-year farm bill that would support local farms and protect federal nutrition programs — Westby farmer Darin Von Ruden and legislators warned that the delay in passing the bill threatens farm stability.  WIZM
  • La Crosse city council postponed its vote on hiring a full-time city administrator until early 2026 by an 11—2 vote to allow more study and public comment. Some council members said they were ready to vote now but wanted unanimous support before the proposal moved forward.  WIZM

  • Developers and community leaders celebrated a ribbon cutting for the Driftless Apartments near the Black River—this 120-unit complex opened last fall at the old Mobil Oil site on Copeland Avenue and now has about 70 per cent occupancy with rents ranging from $800 to $1700 per month.  WIZM
