- ➤ The Onalaska Fire Department responded to a home fire at 292 Carol Lane on Thursday afternoon and found that an electrical outlet sparked a fire behind an interior wall—it was quickly extinguished with only minor damage and no injuries. WEAU

- ➤ La Crosse Police say a person was shot around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in the 900 block of 5th Avenue South and taken to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries — the department has identified 27 year old Diontae Booth as a person of interest in what is believed to be an isolated targeted incident. - ➤ At Logan High School on Wednesday, more than 20 Adapted Physical Education students from Logan and Central schools showed off their swimming skills and growing self-confidence built during weekly lessons, and the event was live streamed so they will review their progress next class (teacher Jessa Ellenbecker said the sessions taught them how to use safety equipment in the pool). - ➤ The Nature Place is hosting a monthly bioblitz for volunteers to record rare species using iNaturalist—this community science tool logs observations in the Driftless region. - ➤ The new AI system Ava — launched May 5 — now helps handle non-emergency calls at La Crosse County Public Safety and Communications Center by routing minor issues like parking complaints to a dispatcher while fully managing calls such as accident reports when possible. It speaks English, Spanish, and French and may soon serve up to 30 languages while handling 40 to 50 percent of yearly calls, and callers can always reach a person if needed. WIZM
