- ➤ Kat Craugh—La Crosse's recreation and community enrichment manager—said summer day camps for kids have filled up and all three pools will open on June 7. She said seniors can join a mystery trip while Pettibone Beach rentals will be available after Memorial Day and a section of Cameron Park will become a dog park as the Farmers Market has moved to Burns Park. - ➤ More than 150 motorcycles roared through the Coulee Region on Saturday to support Dallas Gardner—a 15-year-old with medical challenges—as the Big Bikes for Little Tikes ride started at Great Rivers Harley-Davidson in Onalaska and passed through Rockland, Cashton, Westby, Hillsboro and ended at the Time Out Tavern in La Crescent. Funds raised will help pay for a family trip to Texas in September, a trip Dallas said he looks forward to as he eagerly anticipates a Cowboys game against the Packers. WIZM

- ➤ A fire on May 15th destroyed Tank Creek Bridge on the Great River State Trail near Trempealeau with no injuries reported, and the DNR closed the bridge while it investigates the cause. WEAU

- ➤ The Rookery bar and grill started on May 3 in the old Eagles Nest at 1914 Campbell Road near the UW-La Crosse campus while a tobacco shop in La Crescent earned approval to open around Aug. 1. The Gifted Earth Rock Shop moved to a new spot near Gays Mills and Onalaska officials approved alcohol licenses for Legacy Hotel LLC — which now will manage the Holiday Inn Express and Suites with 138 rooms. - ➤ La Crosse law enforcement is seeking arrest of Diontae Booth—accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in the head—for attempted homicide and firearm possession. La Crosse Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A section of Theater Road in Onalaska will close starting May 27 for roundabout construction at the busy intersection near McDonald’s, Coulee Bank, Wells Fargo, and a strip mall with Target – local properties and businesses will remain accessible during the work. Construction is expected to finish by early August. News8000
- ➤ Road crews began work on County Highway JB in Middle Ridge on Monday as they replaced 11 culverts, closing the road daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Wednesday—officials paused work for Memorial Day weekend—then plan to resume closures from May 27 through May 29 with the same schedule. - ➤ State Route 93 was closed Monday for a complete resurfacing project from Cedar Road to the Trempealeau County line — detour routes including I-94, Highway 37 or US 10 were set up. The highway will remain closed until early August — crews work to finish the project lane by lane. News8000

- ➤ Winona Health dermatologist Dr. Chad Weaver warned that as summer nears, residents should use their preferred sunscreen as long as it is rated at least SPF 30 to protect against UVA and UVB rays. He explained that even light clothing leaves parts of the skin exposed and water ratings do not replace regular application — leaving skin vulnerable. News8000
