  • Amtrak’s Borealis train service celebrated its first anniversary yesterday in La Crosse — the train carried over 212,000 passengers in its first year and surpassed initial forecasts. Local tourism officials praised the milestone and the boost it has given to regional travel.  News8000

  • A 10-year-old boy died after a UTV crashed on private property Saturday in Dayton’s township southwest of Richland Center—he was not wearing a helmet and the vehicle tipped over after an abrupt turn, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.  News8000

  • Houston County court ordered a competency test for Nicholas McCabe, a Brownsville man charged with attempted murder after he stabbed his father outside the family’s roofing business in Hokah on May 12 — his evaluation may take up to two months before he returns to court in July and he is barred from contacting his father or keeping dangerous weapons.  WIZM

  • The School District of La Crosse announced that Luke Madsen will be the new principal of Logan High School beginning July 1 — he brings over 25 years of experience from roles in Winona and Black River Falls and holds degrees from Silver Lake College and UW La Crosse.  WIProud
  • UW-La Crosse's Adapted Physical Education program faces an uncertain future after the U.S. Department of Education cut long-standing grant funding. University officials said they are seeking alternative funding and have contacted Congressional representatives to support training for educators working with children with disabilities.  News8000
