- ➤ At the La Crosse Fire Dept. awards ceremony on May 21, 2026, UW-La Crosse student Kaiden Brenneman-Sorenson and UW-Eau Claire’s Charlie Mroz received Certificates of Valor for rescuing a resident during an April apartment fire - their brave actions saved a life. WIZM
- ➤ Friday marked the 15th anniversary of the 2011 EF-2 tornado that struck La Crosse, causing property damage to homes and businesses along a 16-mile path from Hokah to Isle La Plume, though no one was injured (the first tornado since 1966). WIZM
