La Crosse residents lined the streets Monday morning to honor fallen service members during the annual Memorial Day Parade.

The procession began at 9 a.m. at 6th and Main and ended with a memorial service at Oak Grove Cemetery—featuring music from four local high school bands.

At the High Ground Veterans Memorial in Neillsville, riders gathered for the 15th Annual Honor Ride to honor veterans and raise funds for programs that support them—participants traveled from many communities across the state.

On Monday, Memorial Day events honored fallen service members across the Coulee Region with ceremonies that included a ceremonial firing at Campbell Cemetery, a flag raising at Veterans Freedom Park, and parades with memorial services in La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen, Sparta and La Crescent.

Work on the Goose Island Park bridge repair begins today as crews reduce traffic to one lane under a traffic light near the park entrance.

The county said the repairs will continue through this week and the area will reopen on Monday, June 2 — affecting local travel.

Congressman Derrick Van Orden honored fallen service members at Memorial Day events in Sparta by giving a keynote speech at Blyton Veterans Park and joining a wreath-laying ceremony at VFW Post 2112 — his remarks stressed that the holiday unites all Americans.

The ceremonies brought together veterans, families, and local community members to remember those who died protecting our freedoms.
