COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, firefighters rescued ducklings from a storm drain after community members reported their distressed mother. The incident is part of the official duckling rescue season in La Crosse (highlighting local care).  News8000
  • At its Derby Party on May 2, the La Crosse Club donated $6,200 to help fund St. Clare Health Mission’s healthcare services for underinsured + underserved residents.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • The La Crosse Area Heritage Center unveiled the 'Drink in the Design' exhibit on Wednesday, showcasing local brewery advertising artifacts donated by community members. The exhibit featuring items from Heileman, Gund and Michel breweries runs through Oct. 24 at 506 Main Street.  News8000
  • Paddles and Premieres will take place this weekend in La Crosse, starting Friday at 4 p.m. at Pettibone Lagoon and continuing at Goose Island and Lake Neshonoc in West Salem. A Paddling Film Festival airs at the Rivoli Theater on Saturday at 5 p.m.  WIZM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Allegiant Air launched service from La Crosse to Orlando just before Memorial Day and plans to add flights to Punta Gorda in October. Airport activity increased last year — with more parking and 43,000 passengers, the highest total since Delta Airlines ended service.  WIZM

  • Local officials will hold a vote on the future of the North Side Library building later this week — community input will shape whether it is repurposed or renovated.  News8000

HEALTH NEWS

  • The county health department resumed weekly e-coli testing at eight beaches this week & all samples proved safe for swimming. Recorded values ranged from below 10 to 70, so local officials reported no need for beach closures.  WIZM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fans from the Coulee Region will join the 29th annual Explore La Crosse Day with the Brewers on June 18 at American Family Field — the event features a tailgate, raffles with signed memorabilia and live music by Corey Wise, and tickets cost $110 for adults and $50 for children.  WIZM
