- ➤ La Crosse area mental health programs run by about 20 non-profits are receiving Community Mental Wellbeing grants from Great Rivers United Way from a $1.5 million fund to help address the community's top mental health need — grants will support groups like the Boys and Girls Clubs, Couleecap, New Horizons, and La Crosse Family Y over the next three years. - ➤ La Crosse Police arrested 28-year-old Diontae Booth on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the 1900 block of Rose Street — he is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and other offenses after a May 15 domestic dispute in which he allegedly shot a woman in the face. WEAU
- ➤ A La Crosse man, 59-year-old Toudeng Thao, pleaded guilty in March to possessing and distributing meth—he was arrested last year during a traffic stop with his former spouse and sentenced to 7.5 years after selling 203 grams to an informant. WIZM

- ➤ West Salem Middle School students tested their engineering skills on Thursday when they took part in an annual cardboard boat challenge, where groups built 27 boats that raced to a buoy and back (students used duct tape and spray paint to construct their vessels). - ➤ After more than a year of discussion, La Crosse City Hall is exploring public hearings on hiring a city administrator as a study committee seeks ways to get more resident input—possibly by mailing surveys with utility bills.
