CRIME NEWS

  • The first week of the Maxwell Anderson trial began yesterday at the local courthouse with opening arguments and initial proceedings. The court will hold further hearings in the coming days as the case develops.  WIProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • La Crosse Water Utility will start its annual water system flushing program Sunday night from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and crews will work from 7th and King Street north to the La Crosse River marsh and east to the bluffs—short-term effects may include hydrant noise, street flooding, flashing vehicle lights, temporary water discoloration, and reduced pressure until the work finishes on the south side around June 16 and the north side around June 22.  News8000
  • West Salem is closing City Loop Drive from County Highway C to East Jefferson Street for reconstruction starting Monday morning—drivers must use a detour along County Highways B, C and M until approximately July 7 while the I-90 Kwik Trip remains open at the East Jefferson Street entrance.  News8000

  • Nearly 50 paddlers competed in kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards over a 7.5-mile course on the Mississippi River at Goose Island Park during the annual Goose Island Grind Paddle Races. The event, hosted by the Outdoor Recreation Alliance (sponsored by Paddle Dynamics and Coulee Region Ecoscapes), featured morning and afternoon races with lunch and awards provided.  News8000
