  • La Crosse hosted its annual Bike Rodeo event Tuesday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at Myrick Park to teach young riders bike safety—children needed to bring their own bikes and helmets for the training.  News8000
  • Russ is a 3-year-old Border Collie mix (set for neutering and current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and microchipped) who is curious yet cautious and warms slowly to new people, especially preferring female staff. Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska advises slow introductions and recommends homes with kids over 5 and careful dog introductions, while his compatibility with cats remains uncertain.  WIProud

  • Officials from the DNR are investigating the illegal shooting of bull elk 244 found on March 18 off East Snow Creek Road in Black River Falls—experts confirmed the GPS-collared breeding bull from Kentucky was fatally shot and a $5,500 reward is offered for information.  News8000

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Business leaders met Tuesday at the La Crosse County Administrative Center to discuss economic challenges such as workforce shortages, childcare costs, and artificial intelligence’s impact on jobs—organized by the 7 Rivers Alliance with input from state offices. The roundtable aimed to find innovative ways to attract and retain workers in the region.  News8000

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lewis Kuhlman, La Crosse’s environmental planner, said the Solar Power Hour is happening today from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the People’s Food Coop—where residents learn how to lower costs on solar installations and get help with energy upgrades through the home energy audit program for low-income households. He noted that more sessions will be scheduled in July and August and also discussed the environmental impact of data centers.  WIZM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City committees in La Crosse are voting this month on the Haven on Main housing project planned where the Pink Palace apartments once stood. The plan offers 70 units and 94 bedrooms for income-challenged families and people with disabilities and was backed by the plan commission — it will be reviewed by other city panels in June.  WIZM
  • On June 2 the La Crosse Board of Public Works voted to raise storm water utility bills by 120% from $53 to $118 per household starting July 1 to rebuild reserves—Public meetings to review the proposal are set for June 5 and June 12 while one board member raised concerns about the steep jump.  WIProud
