CULTURE NEWS

  • Riverfest welcomed 2025 Commodore Dustin Luecke and First Mate Dominique Luecke during a dinner ceremony at the Radisson in downtown La Crosse on Tuesday night. Dustin, an Onalaska native who works as WXOW-TV morning anchor, and Dominique, an advancement and grant specialist with Family & Children's Center, said they appreciated strong community support and are excited to share the festival—running July 2-5 in Riverside Park—with their three children.  News8000
  • Artspire will be held Saturday, June 14 — local organizers plan art exhibits, live shows and hands-on art activities to showcase local talent.  News8000

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wisconsin’s Department of Tourism reported that 2024 reached record highs with $25.8 billion in economic impact statewide and La Crosse County recording $519 million in visitor spending. The boost helped support over 4,000 local jobs and increased spending by $12 million—reflecting growing demand for the region’s outdoor recreation.  News8000

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Children's Museum opened its new interactive exhibit Wednesday that teaches kids about HVAC science by blending firefighting excitement with hands-on learning. The exhibit features a bunk room, slide and chiller system that shows how heating and cooling work + helps kids understand how temperature is controlled.  News8000
  • Middle school students completed a three-day culinary program at UWL Culinary Academy where they learned kitchen safety, food preparation, and Midwest recipes — they ended the program with a final dinner to show off their new skills.  News8000

  • A public hearing will be held at the West Salem Community Center Tuesday, June 17 at 6:45 p.m. where the Village Board will consider a new ordinance that limits parking on South Leonard Street to two hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday (the proposed ticket fine is $75 and may be adjusted based on resident input).  WIZM
  • A block of Ferry Street between 13th and 14th Streets South is closed for two weeks for water repair + the closure started Thursday and will continue until June 26.  News8000
