- ➤ A 60-year-old Onalaska man, Jay Wiltse, was charged with arson, firearm possession by a felon and felony bail jumping after he set off fireworks in a neighbor’s bathroom earlier this month—he is now held on a $20,000 signature bond. WEAU
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Western Wisconsin counties broke tourism revenue records in 2024 as visitor numbers reached new highs. La Crosse County earned $519 million (up 3.4% from 2023) while Chippewa and Vernon counties saw 4.9% rises (to $193 million and $77 million respectively) that will boost local economies. - ➤ The West Salem Village Board rejected a parking ordinance—one that would have limited parking on South Leonard Street to two hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.—after local business owners raised concerns over customer access. - ➤ La Crosse County Board chair Tina Tryggestad said there was no monthly meeting last week and explained plans to sell 111 acres of county-owned farmland in West Salem + plan to deploy an A.I. system for non-emergency 911 calls.
