  • La Crosse Area Family YMCA is hosting a Summer Food Program—serving free meals daily to children 18 and under at 24 locations. The program aims to fight food insecurity and will provide over 400,000 meals until August 8.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • La Crosse County police arrested Mayking Murillo-Palacios during a traffic stop early Saturday on Highway 53 and Sylvester Road — a search of his vehicle uncovered 170 grams of cocaine and over $4,000 in cash, leading to charges of possession with intent to deliver, cocaine, and bail jumping before his release on a $20,000 signature bond.  WIProud

  • Governor Tony Evers visited La Crosse yesterday to ask lawmakers to provide $480 million for Child Care Counts as federal support is set to end on June 30—he said the funding will help keep child care providers open and serve over 417,000 children.  News8000
  • State Route 162 closed Wednesday for major construction that will replace aging bridges from US Highway 14 to State Route 33 in Coon Valley—local drivers are advised to use alternate routes until the work is finished in November.  News8000
  • Former UW La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow will have his federal jury trial next summer on June 22nd in his lawsuit against the UW Board of Regents, who fired him in September 2024 after he produced pornographic videos online. If he wins his case, he may be reinstated and could receive back pay and damages (pending jury decision).  WIProud

  • Following a recent heat spike, the La Crosse County Health Department warned visitors that blue-green algae blooms may form in local rivers, lakes, or ponds.
