- ➤ On June 26th, Molly McCormick from the La Crosse Fire Department told La Crosse Talk that a tornado siren means a tornado is coming and people should seek shelter immediately—she also said that using certain fireworks will lead to a $502 fine. She noted the department had fewer calls last month and urged boat and swimming safety as rivers will flood early next week—residents should follow local safety tips. WIZM
- ➤ Holiday fireworks shows will light up the skies across the region as celebrations begin tomorrow in Onalaska with a free display at Van Riper Park starting at 9:45 p.m.—La Crosse’s Riverfest will feature a fireworks show on July 4 at 9:40 p.m., and additional events are set in Galesville, West Salem and at St. Joe’s Ridge Community Park on July 4, July 5, and July 12. - ➤ Olivia Moths said Steppin’ Out In Pink will try to raise $500k at the Sept. 13 event after last year’s record $443,000 donation helped fund breast cancer research and support programs. - ➤ The La Crosse Police Department reminded residents that fireworks must be used with a valid permit — illegal use may lead to a $502 citation and can affect people with PTSD, autism or dementia. Sergeant Danny Mandujano urged everyone to use legal fireworks only when sober and to keep them away from children, adding that police handled around 200 firework-related calls last year. WIProud
- ➤ The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the DNR can require polluters to clean up PFAS, letting the Town of Campbell keep its interim safe water and move ahead with a municipal well set for completion by 2027 — a key decision after five years of contamination.
