  • Couleecap will host a fundraiser at La Crosse Club to support local community projects and will share more event details soon.  News8000
  • Riverfest ended Saturday night as volunteers cleared Riverside Park on Sunday morning by moving tents, tables, and trailers — picnic tables are ready for removal. Riverfest president DJ Olbrys said next year's festival will run from Wednesday, July 1, 2026 through Saturday, July 4, 2026.  WIZM
  • Special Olympics athletes enjoyed a free fishing event Monday evening at Chad Erickson Memorial Park, marking over 30 years of the club's community tradition. The club will hold additional sessions on July 21, August 4, August 18, and September 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with free registration required by the Friday before each event.  News8000
  • Moon Tunes and Rotary Lights will team up for a food drive at Riverside Park on Thursday, July 10 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.—the event will feature the Smokin’ Bandits and Matt Mahlum Band and benefit the Hunger Task Force with local Rotary Clubs matching donations.  News8000

CRIME NEWS

  • Jacob Klaver, the Winona man charged with first-degree homicide for the death of Josh Pigney at a Holmen residence in late June, was ordered to post a $1 million cash bond for release from the La Crosse County jail after receiving emergency care at Gundersen — his next court hearing is scheduled for July 16.  WIZM

CULTURE NEWS

  • On July 7, a group of musicians set the record for the largest string orchestra in La Crosse — the event marked a new milestone in local music history.  News8000

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state budget signed last week by Governor Evers included $194 million in funding for the Prairie Springs II science building at UW-La Crosse. Representative Jill Billings said local employers such as Emplify by Gundersen, Mayo Clinic Health System and Kwik Trip supported the effort, with demolition of Cowley Hall scheduled before construction begins next spring and work expected to finish by late 2028.  WIZM
