Kumm stalled near Lock and Dam #8 on the Mississippi River and all seven onboard escaped injury after Army Corps staff threw life rings—helping them climb safely onto the dam—as Houston County Sheriff Brian Swedberg and Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reported. - ➤ Raising Cane’s will open its first La Crosse restaurant at 3740 State Road 16 on Tuesday, August 17th, where customers will enjoy its simple chicken finger meals. - ➤ A study by SafeHome shows that cities in nearby western Wisconsin did not make the lists of the safest or most dangerous, while Lake Delton had a high property crime rate.
