- ➤ Habitat for Humanity finished renovating a house on Avon Street for a north La Crosse family on Thursday when director Kahya Fox handed keys to Lee Vang’s family — local volunteers worked many hours on the project — as the homeowners met the need to help build and qualify to pay the mortgage. - ➤ Food Drive Fridays resume this month to support 128 pantries as volunteers collect nonperishable food donations on July 11, 18 and 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.—donations include items such as peanut butter, canned meat, breakfast items, rice, beans, soup and kid friendly foods at two local parking lots. - ➤ Foodie Friday looked at LAX Grille – a local restaurant by a Hmong owner – that prepares Asian fusion dishes with local ingredients, including Pad Thai, eggrolls and miso ramen. The restaurant serves customers Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. News8000

- ➤ The La Crosse Area Heritage Center opened a new art exhibit on July 9 that shows 27 original paintings by local artist Marion Cape Biehn, capturing old La Crosse homes, stores, and landmarks—her work gives a clear look at the city’s past. The exhibit runs until October 5 and is open Thursday to Sunday from 12:00 to 4:30 with $5 for adults, $4 for students and free for Historical Society members. News8000
