  • La Crosse residents can buy personalized, permeable pavers ranging from $150 to $1000 for a new walkway outside Logan Middle School as part of Habitat for Humanity’s Avon Street renewal project. A fundraiser called Pave the Way is set for August 6th—paver purchase is optional—and the walkway will be installed a year from now.  WIZM

  • Bill Kroner, 69, the owner of Kroner's Hardware in downtown La Crosse, announced his plan to retire after nearly 60 years in the family business as he seeks a buyer to preserve the store's legacy (operating since 1868). The building has been sold and the store will maintain a lease until February (ensuring continued downtown operations).  La Crosse Tribune

  • A La Crosse man named Brandon Helke pleaded no contest to charges including negligent use of burning material and intimidating a victim in connection with a December 2021 fire on Onalaska Court that killed two dogs, and he was sentenced to up to a year in prison with credit for 29 jail days.  WIZM

  • The Iowa DOT announced that the Lansing Bridge connecting Iowa and Wisconsin will close this fall to allow construction of a new bridge scheduled to open in 2027. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes—such as the La Crosse Bridge—and the DOT is evaluating a water taxi service despite winter ice challenges.  News8000
  • Seventeen lawmakers and former state treasurer Jack Voight backed a bill to name the monarch butterfly the state symbol as its numbers dropped 90% since 1990—prompting concerns over pollination in Wisconsin. If passed, the state will join seven others in recognizing the monarch as its official butterfly.  News8000
