  • La Crosse’s Pathways Home Initiative received a $350,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice to expand help for local homeless residents and hire a dedicated social worker to break the cycle between homelessness and incarceration—officials say this support will reduce costly jail bookings.  WIProud

  • Veterans interested in Irishfest may purchase two $5 tickets from La Crosse County’s Veteran Services Department at the Health and Human Services building at 300 4th Street North. They must visit during business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) and show proof of veteran status (a veteran identifier on a driver’s license or VA Veteran Health ID card) to gain single-day entrance for the event running August 8-10 at the Southside fest grounds.  WIZM

CRIME NEWS

  • Jacob Klaver remains at a $1 million bond as he searches for a court-appointed attorney to defend him against the charge of strangling Josh Pigney at his Holmen residence—he has been held in La Crosse County jail since July 5 and his case will be heard next week by a different judge.  WIZM

  • Money Magazine named Viterbo University among America's Best Colleges for 2025 based on factors like graduation rates, cost, financial aid and alumni salaries — the school earned four of five stars on the ranking list.
