  • St. Elias Orthodox Church held its 51st annual Mediterranean Festival at 716 Copeland Ave. in North La Crosse where more than 700 visitors enjoyed traditional foods and live folk music plus a silent auction. The festival raised funds for church renovations to improve wheelchair access.  News8000

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday night, Dunn County first responders went to two fatal crashes minutes apart—one on 960th Street in Springbrook at 9:25 p.m. where a Jeep rolled into a ditch and hit a tree, killing a 36-year-old man from Durand who did not wear a seatbelt, and the other on STH 79 in Sherman at 9:27 p.m. when a head-on collision between a Chevy Silverado and a Pontiac G6 killed a 36-year-old woman from Boyceville while another driver was flown out by helicopter.  News8000
  • La Crosse firefighters battled a three-hour fire Saturday night at a two-level home on West Avenue South—arriving soon after an 11:00 p.m. call, finding heavy smoke from the second level with no one inside, and reporting no injuries as the fire remains under investigation.  News8000

  • La Crosse Police are seeking help to locate 22-year-old Eliotte Heinz, last seen walking south on the 500 Block of Front Street South at 3:20 a.m. Sunday—Heinz is 5'4" with blonde hair, blue eyes, weighs about 120 pounds and wore a white t-shirt and jean shorts.  WEAU

  • A man bought two lottery tickets at Two Stories on July 20th and both turned out to be winners—officials have not released prize details.  News8000

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Supreme Court ruling allowed the federal Department of Education to cut nearly 1,300 jobs and reduce its workforce to 2,183. Experts worry that the smaller staff will slow processing of student loans and Pell Grants, which could delay aid for Wisconsin students and affect school programs.  La Crosse Tribune
