  • Rotary Lights concluded its final Friday Food Drive after volunteers collected non-perishable food and cash donations at the old K-Mart on State Road and the Onalaska Hy-Vee to help local families this summer—food donations will continue to be accepted at Moon Tunes events on Thursdays.  News8000

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • 72-year-old La Crosse native David Fargo died after his bicycle veered into a vehicle on State Highway 35 in rural Stoddard on July 23 when 74-year-old Patricia Johnson struck him—authorities are investigating the crash.  WIProud

CRIME NEWS

  • Tyler Beeler, a 31-year-old from La Crosse, was sentenced to 64 months in federal prison after pleading guilty on May 8 to possessing 50 or more grams of methamphetamine for distribution — officers arrested him on August 30 when they found 223 grams in his vehicle and another 29 grams on him at a stop in the city.  WIZM
  • An Onalaska man named Jonathon C. Gerow, 41, was arrested by Holmen Police on Thursday night after he led officers on a high-speed chase on a stolen motorcycle near US Highway 53 at County Road MH—he lost control in a ditch before being taken to a medical center.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jan Eriksen, past president of the local AAUW branch, previews today’s 67th annual art fair on the Green at Viterbo’s courtyard, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the free event features over 60 exhibiting artists, food trucks and booths, and an art raffle—while donations support scholarships for students at UW-La Crosse, Viterbo and Western Tech.  WIZM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists from the Minnesota DNR use a trawl on the Mississippi River near La Crosse to check for Asian carp eggs and signs of spawning, and they will test bait platforms from July 28 to Oct. 3. Samples collected on July 10 showed no evidence of reproduction—local officials ask residents to report sightings to help monitor the invasive fish's spread.  La Crosse Tribune
