  • Coulee Region Humane Society is hosting its 21st annual Adoptathon—featuring a 1990s NirPawNa theme that invites community members to adopt pets and support local animal welfare efforts.  La Crosse Tribune
  • The La Crosse Public Library renovation project will begin Monday with a $3 million grant that will improve technology access and add new facilities — the project is set to modernize the library.  La Crosse Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • A man faces felony DUI charges after his vehicle got stuck in the sand at Pettibone Park beach—he allegedly possessed a concealed weapon.  La Crosse Tribune
  • William Brink, a 56-year-old man from Melrose, is facing charges for robbery with use of force, battery, and second degree recklessly endangering safety after he robbed a BP gas station in Holmen on August 7 — he fled, was later found on State Road 35 on August 9, and is now held in La Crosse County Jail with a court appearance set for today.  WIProud
  • La Crosse Police are asking the public to help locate Ronald McLain Jr., a 26-year-old missing since Sunday near the 1500 block of West Avenue South — he was last seen at noon wearing a green sweatshirt, gray pants, and a black stocking hat.  News8000

CULTURE NEWS

  • Oktoberfest USA announced Monday that general admission tickets are available for the 64th annual Oktoberfest celebration, which will run from September 25 to 28. Online tickets cost $29.99 if bought by September 11 + in-person tickets are $25, with military sales at the box office and free entry offered on September 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  WIZM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of La Crosse will shut off water for four hours today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on far southside homes near the corner of Mormon Coulee Road and Calvert Road to replace a fire hydrant—residents should run the water until it runs clear if it becomes discolored.  WIZM
  • City officials reviewed a project design plan for Highway 35 from South Avenue to the interstate that proposes replacing on-street parking—removing at least 20 spaces—with bike lanes, and Wis-DOT planners said detailed designs will be completed in the next few years with construction set to begin no earlier than 2029.  WIZM
  • Nearly one year after the city banned overnight camping on city-owned property, hundreds of residents still lack a safe place to sleep as the Pathways Home program grew placements from 10 to 178. Service providers say the ban removed a centralized location at Houska Park—making it harder to reach those in need.  News8000
