- ➤ Holmen Kornfest celebrated its 30th anniversary with a car show that offered over $2000 in prizes and showcased a variety of cars and motorcycles—organizers expected about 300 vehicle owners to display their rides as part of a weekend of festivities. News8000
- ➤ Ecker’s Apple Farm started the fall season on Saturday when families enjoyed train rides—apple picking, caramel apples and fresh cider—at the farm in Trempealeau. The event also had a beer garden where people relaxed in the cool fall weather. News8000
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities continue a manhunt for Nathan Gossman who fled during a high-speed chase in Viroqua, crashed his vehicle and then stole a municipal truck in La Crescent early Saturday—residents are urged not to confront him and to report any sightings. News8000
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Government forecasts predict that Wisconsin cranberry growers will harvest 5.3 million barrels from 25,000 acres on 250 farms across 19 counties starting in late September and continuing through October, down from 6.01 million barrels in 2024. The crop supplies nearly two-thirds of the nation’s cranberries+ this decline still keeps Wisconsin as the top producer worldwide. WIZM
- ➤ Today, the La Crosse Street Department begins a two-week micro-sealing project on city streets to extend the life of the roads using asphalt, crushed rock, and chemicals (no parking signs have been posted until the work is finished). WIZM

- ➤ Mountain bikes raced on La Crosse's Bluffs this weekend for the Outdoor Recreation Alliance Trials Fest as riders of all ages competed — a free race was held for beginners — and food trucks served local fare. Event director Chris Stindt said this was the third year of the festival that drew large crowds. News8000
