  • Michelle Skemp was introduced as Mrs. Oktoberfest for 2025 at a banquet on the UWL campus Saturday night. She learned about her win in April before her daughter’s wedding—she is also recognized as Rotarian of the Year for 2024 to 25 while working as a marketing director and teaching music with local bands.  WIZM
  • The Franciscan Spirituality Center in La Crosse celebrated its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of service—showing its long-standing commitment to local support. The center has served residents with ongoing programs and community care throughout its history.  News8000

  • Microsoft announced a $4 billion expansion of its AI datacenter in Wisconsin—promising to build one of the world's most powerful computing centers.  News8000

  • La Crosse Public Library’s Dark La Crosse Stories podcast series won the governor’s award for innovative archiving—preserving Wisconsin’s history for future audiences.  La Crosse Tribune
  • On Sept. 19, 2025, historian Brad Quarberg was on La Crosse Talk sharing his memories of past Oktoberfest events such as a paddle wheeler race on the Mississippi (a nod to the event’s lively history). He also recalled a time when the medallion was held hostage (a reminder of the festival’s unique challenges) during earlier celebrations.  WIZM
  • The Oktoberfest Medallion Hunt released Clue #8 on September 22 for festival-goers in La Crosse to solve during the annual celebration. Locals will use the clue—an important hint—to search for hidden medallions that may earn them prizes.  News8000

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Coulee Region hit a low of $2.86 per gallon while statewide averages reached $2.89 on Monday—GasBuddy surveyed 3,112 stations and showed a 0.8 cent rise over the week.  La Crosse Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • La Crosse’s MTU bus service is adjusting routes due to the Torchlight and Maple Leaf parades during Oktoberfest. Route 6 buses will detour from 5:40 p.m. to 8:40 p.m. on September 25 while routes 4 and 6 will detour from service start until about 3:40 p.m. on September 27 —riders should check posted details—.  WIZM

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Child Passenger Safety Week in La Crosse, experts say up to 90% of car seats are installed incorrectly—posing serious risks to children in crashes. Kelly Hilsabeck of Emplify Health says free car seat checks will run on the first Thursday from October through March from 3 to 6 p.m.—at Gunderson Drive Through North on Mulberry Lane.  News8000
  • On Monday, a Mindful Monday segment reminded La Crosse parents to check that car seats are installed correctly and that children are secured—local safety experts recommend monthly inspections. Officials urge families to follow these tips for every ride.  News8000
